Mesothelioma Surgery
Whether a surgical procedure is beneficial
is dependant on many factors such as the
stage of the cancer, where the cancer is,
whether the cancer has spread far, how
old the patient is and their overall
health status.
Surgery generally has two objectives:
to try and alleviate the symptoms of
the cancer or to try and remove the
cancerous area.
Surgery is not carried out in
isolation but as part of a combined
approach - for example, with
chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Mesothelioma patients with advanced
mesothelioma are not candidates for
surgery but may gain some improvement
by chemotherapy.
