Mesothelioma Surgery: Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Surgery for the treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma is generally aimed at alleviating the symptons of peritoneal mesothelioma such as intestinal blockages or pain rather than removing offending tumors.
During the surgery purely palliative procedures can also be combined with potential healing cytoreductive surgical procedures in combination with intraoperative, intraperitoneal heated chemotherapy. This latter procedure allows high strengths of drugs to be administered to the remaining cancerous cells into the tumor-resected pelvic and abdominal areas while harming as few normal cells as possible.
