Mesothelioma Treatments and Mesothelioma Research: Palliative Therapies
Palliative Therapies

An essential aspect to any medical care program is palliative care.

For people with mesothelioma - as well as their family members - the diagnosis of an advanced or life-threatening disease brings a range of problems outside of the pure medical - physical, psychological, social and spiritual.

Palliative care addresses those needs so as to afford reassurance and preserve the best quality of life possible.

Although symptoms will vary from patient to patient the pain endured by most mesothelioma sufferers is generally great. Consequently, the control of pain is usually the first priority of palliative care.

Surgery can reduce pain by, for example, fluid build up while radiation has shown to relieve pain.

Alongside conventional pain management treatments other areas that can help are treatments such as stress management, meditation, or even massage therapy.
