Alimta®
As discussed earlier Alimta® is a new drug that has shown great promise both as a single agent and combined agent.
The FDA gave approval for its use in early 2004 and trials have shown that, as a combined agent with cisplatin, mesothelioma patients might see life expectancy extended by up to thirty per cent.
Patients using the combined therapy saw a marked upturn in symptons that included less shortness of breath and reduced pain. To minimize side effects Alimta® is given with folic acid and vitamin B-12.
