Mesothelioma Treatments and Research
Unfortunately, there is currently no known cure
for mesothelioma. The treatments available seek
to improve survival terms while making the
mesothelioma patient as comfortable and
pain-free as possible.
Though there are no ‘hard and fast’ rules regarding
therapy the therapies that do exist fall under
three categories:
- surgery
- chemotherapy, and
- radiotherapy.
The lack of universal standard procedures means that
each treatment program is determined on the
individuals’ particular circumstances.
One generally accepted treatment principle is
that singly the treatments have a relatively
small effect.
Conversely, a combined approach for
mesothelioma patients – especially in the
early stages of the disease – has shown
indications of extending survival.
